stem changing verbs: 3 types: e-ie; e-i; o-ue

1. e-ie (don’t change in nosotros)

comenzar (to begin)
divertirse (to enjoy oneself; to have fun)   
empezar (to begin)
entender (to understand)
perder (to lose)
preferir (to prefer)
querer (to want)
tener (to have) (tener is also irregular in the "yo" form - yo tengo)

 

querer=to want e changes to ie (don’t change nosotros)

yo	quiero (I want)	nosotros	queremos  (we want)
tú	quieres (you want)
él ella usted	quiere (he/she/you (formal) wants)	ellos ustedes	quieren (they want)

I want to ride a horse. Yo quiero montar a caballo
You want a dog. Tu quieres un perro

tener=to have e changes to ie (don’t change nosotros)

You have a cow. Tu tienes una vaca.

pedir (to ask for/request)

repetir (to repeat)

      decir (to say/tell) *yo form is digo

contar (to count)
costar (to cost)
devolver (to return an item)
dormir- to sleep

poder (to be able to; can)
morir (to die)
volar (to fly)
volver (to return to a place)
